Studies of landslides
Clay embankments, both natural
and artificial (such as when constructing a motorway), often have failure
planes linked with the creep of certain levels.
Surveys of the soils and auger
or core drilling are used to provide an accurate assessment of the thickness
and nature of the different levels, as well as to take samples.
These samples are then put
through all the laboratory tests required (Casagrande shear test, Atterberg
limits, triaxial test...) to obtain the parameters necessary for the calculations.
All the results are then analysed
to determine the safety factor and the possible reinforcement solutions,
if necessary.
